Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou is a respected chess official, businessman, and long-standing contributor to European chess. With deep experience in sports governance, event management, and international cooperation, he stands as a strong candidate for the position of ECU Secretary General.
Tsorbatzoglou combines academic, business, and organizational expertise. He holds a master’s degree in Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, along with studies in Business Administration. His professional background spans engineering, tourism, marketing, event management, and real estate. He founded his own event and marketing company in 2004 and has organized more than 50 events, including scientific conferences, corporate events, sports events, and major international chess competitions.
Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou began playing chess at the age of 8 and later became a FIDE Master and FIDE Trainer. He represented Greece in national teams during his competitive career and later dedicated himself to chess training and sports leadership.
Since 2006, he has served in FIDE Commissions, becoming Secretary of the FIDE Events Commission in 2010. In 2014, he was elected Secretary General of the European Chess Union, demonstrating the trust placed in him by the European chess community.
He also serves from 2025 as Deputy Secretary of the Greek Chess Federation, and from 2021, he acts as the President of the AMO Galaxias Thessaloniki Chess Club, continuing his active engagement with grassroots and club-level chess development.
Beyond his professional and chess career, Mr. Tsorbatzoglou has shown strong social sensitivity. During the wars in former Yugoslavia, he supported humanitarian actions for children affected by conflict. More recently, he demonstrated solidarity with the chess community in Ukraine through his visit during a difficult period for the country.
