Volodymyr Kovalchuk, First Vice President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation, is a member of the ECU2030 team and, following the ECU elections, will join us to the ECU Board in a position which will be announced during the ECU General Assembly 2026.

Ukrainian chess has delivered outstanding recent results at European level the last year: gold in the European Open Team Chess Championship 2025, silver in the European Women’s Team Chess Championship 2025, and gold in both the European Open Chess Championship 2026 and the European Women’s Chess Championship 2026!

These achievements highlight the strength and depth of Ukrainian chess and its impact on European competition.

Volodymyr has also been awarded on 28th of June by the Ukrainian state with the honorary title “Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine” — a distinction that reflects long-term contribution, responsibility, and recognized service.
